Shintoism is a Japanese religion with on ritual practices begun in the 8th century.  It focuses on establishing a connection between present-day Japan and its ancient past.  This candlelight ceremony is devoted to the worship of a multitude of gods (kami) which would take place at war memorial and harvest festivals.
